During previous years, the department had utilized the Water Treatment Plant for the purpose of testing the fire pumps on the department's apparatus. This is an annual requirement by ISO (Insurance Services Office) and provides security that the pump is operating at full capacity. In addition, the department had built temporary earth dikes for the purpose of conducting live liquid petroleum fires for the purpose of educating and training fire personnel. Due to continued concerns of soil contamination, etc., this project had a direct impact on maintaining both current and future ISO Classifications. The training facilities provide maximum apparatus maintenance and training evolutions for both Kirksville and surrounding fire service personnel.
