Text Box: The Kirksville Police Department has been in existence for more than one hundred and fifty years. In the very early days of Kirksville, in the 1830's and 40's, the Police Department was staffed by one officer who was better known as the town Constable or the Town Marshal. From the one person Department of then, the Department has evolved into a modern community oriented, full service police agency with 25 full time officers. Text Box: The Deputy Chief is the next ranking officer who is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the departments patrol functions. The Patrol Division has three shifts. Each shift is commanded by a sergeant with a corporal assisting and made up of 4 or 5 patrol officers. These shifts are charged with responding to calls for service, investigating crimes, apprehension of criminals, crime prevention, traffic enforcement and investigation, and other services

Text Box: The School Resource Officer works out of the Patrol Division and is assigned to the Kirksville community schools. The S.R.O., as they are known, maintains an office in the high school and works closely with the public school system. The S.R.O. maintains a watch over the schools grounds and assists in teaching the children about various safety issues and the importance of making good decisions in every part of their lives.

Text Box: No department would be able to operate without those behind the scenes who assist in the day to day functions and operations. The department employs a full time secretary who greets the public and takes care of just about every type of paperwork that is generated. The department also employs a full time record keeper who maintains all of the departments reports and records.

Although born and raised in S.E. Kansas, I worked 25 years for the Boulder, Colorado Police Department before accepting the Chief’s position in Kirksville. I have experience as an Officer, Detective, Firearms Instructor, SWAT, Crime Scene Investigator, Emergency Manager, Field Training Sergeant, Strategic Planner, Officer Safety Instructor, Special Events Coordinator, Plainclothes/Tactical Operative, and a host of other assignments. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wichita State University and was a graduate assistant for 1 1/2 years. I am married with one daughter.

Text Box: I graduated from Schuyler County High School in 1980. While working on my Bachelor’s Degree I was hired by the Kirksville Police Department in June 1985. I was promoted to Corporal in 1987. I finished my degree in 1988, graduating from N.E. Missouri State University (now Truman). I was promoted to Sergeant in 1990. After working Investigations I was promoted to Lieutenant in 1994 and again promoted to the office of Deputy Chief in 1996. I am responsible for the Patrol staff, equipment, scheduling and budgeting. I serve as a S.R.T. member and instructor. I am a member of 4-H and my wife Lisa and I have four children.

Text Box: The Deputy Chief is assisted by the Administrative Sergeant who is responsible for the processing of all event reports that are made by department officers. The Administrative Sergeant is also responsible for all internal affairs including investigations.

Text Box: I graduated from St. Ambrose University in 1985 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and started my career with the Kirksville Police Department. In 1991 I was certified as a D.A.R.E. Instructor and served as the School Resource Officer for the Kirksville R-III School District for several years. I currently serve as the departments administrative sergeant. My wife Debbie and I have two sons, Keaton and Nathan.

Text Box: I graduated from Buena Vista University in 1996 with my Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. I was hired as a patrol officer with the City of Kirksville in 1996. I became a D.A.R.E. Instructor in November of 1998. Currently I am serving as the departments School Resource Officer (S.R.O.)   and enjoy my daily interactions with the kids. My husband, James, is also a police officer and we have one daughter, Riley, and one son, Matthew. I enjoy spending time with my family and working with the citizens of our city to make Kirksville a safer place to live.

Text Box: The Investigations Division is staffed by two full time Detectives who are responsible for helping to solve more serious crimes in the community. They have specialized training in forensic investigations, evidence collection and processing, covert activities, interrogations including C.V.S.A. (Truth Verification), and a host of other skills.

Text Box: I was born in Rome, Italy. In 1969 I volunteered to go to Vietnam. I served as an Infantryman and a helicopter door gunner. I went back to school, received my GED, and graduated Junior College with an AA degree and a certificate in Law Enforcement. I then completed another 2 years of school at Northeastern University in Chicago. After school I became a United States citizen and located the perfect location for my career, Kirksville Missouri. I owe all my success to my living wife Nettie. Positions I have held in the department include; Patrolman, Juvenile Police Officer, Detective, Corporal, and Sergeant of Patrol. Most recently I returned to my long term goal as Detective Sergeant.

Text Box: I graduated from Kirksville Senior High School in 1995 and attended Moberly Area Community College fro course work in Criminal Justice. I was employed as a police officer in May of 1997 with the City of La Plata, Missouri, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant while working there. In December of 1999 I was hired by the Kirksville Police Department as a Patrol Officer. In September 2005 I was promoted to Detective. I also serve as a member of  the departments Special Response Team (SRT). I am married and have two children. I enjoy motorcycles and lending a helping hand in my community.
