Annual Events
The Parks and Recreation Department sponsors a variety of recreational activities for all ages.
Adult Softball:
Leagues are offered for different skill levels as well as a non-competitive league. Registration takes place in April, with the leagues starting around Memorial Day each year and run through mid to late August. Adult leagues are offered on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights. All games are played at the North Park Complex. Coed leagues, and Men's leagues are available.
Tennis:
The Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department offers tennis lessons for all ages and all skill levels. Lessons are generally held at the Kirksville High School Tennis Courts on Monday- Thursday for 4 weeks in June. If there is enough interest in the program there will be a second session offered in July. Registration takes place during the month of May at the Parks and Rec. Office. Each participant receives a T-shirt.
KBSA Youth Baseball and Softball:
The summer baseball and softball for the youth in the area is sponsored by the Kirksville Baseball/Softball Association. Games are played at the North Park Complex on U.S. 63 in the northern part of Kirksville. Leagues are divided by age. Children ages 6 through age 18 are eligible to play. Registration for the leagues is done at the Kirksville Parks and Recreation Office at 801 E. Mill Street during the month of March.
Easter Egg Hunt:
The annual community Easter Egg Hunt is organized by the Parks and Recreation staff and co-sponsored by businesses and organizations in the community. Children from age 2 to age 10. Age groups are separated prior to hunting for eggs and treats. This event is held the Saturday prior to Easter at 10am on the Truman State University Campus and is free to the public.
Hershey Track and Field Meet:
The Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department Is a proud sponsor of the Hershey Track and Field Meet. This event is held each spring and is sponsored in conjunction with the Truman State University Exercise Science Department. Participation is free and open to children ages 7-14.
Aquafina Pitch, Hit and Run:
The Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department, Truman State University Exercise Science Department, and the Adair County Family YMCA host this event each spring. Participation is free and open to children ages 7-14. The event is held at the Noth Park Complex.
Children's Theatre Camp:
Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department sponsors a Children's Theatre Camp during the summer months. Sign ups take place during the month of May. The camp meets at the Rotary Park Amphitheatre. The campers will put on a final show performance at the end of camp.
Broadway in the Park:
Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department sponsors Broadway in the Park during the summer season. The style of the performance changes each year, but be assured that it will be full of music, dancing, and loads of fun. Programs are held in the Rotary Park Amphitheatre, and admission is free. This is a great event for all ages.
Halloween Carnival:
This very popular event is sponsored by the Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department and the Adair County Family YMCA. Children up to age 10 are encouraged to attend in costume and participate in a variety of games. The carnival is held at the YMCA and is free to the public.
