The City of Kirksville has provided recreational and education swimming opportunities for the Northeast Missouri region since the mid-50s. The current Aquatic Center was opened on June 19, 1999, replacing the old municipal pool facility. In 2018 Kirksville residents voted to impose a sales tax of one-half of one percent, for fifteen years, for the purpose of funding City parks and recreation. A portion of those funds have dedicated to new aquatic facilities. Due to the upcoming construction, the outdoor pool will be close for the summer of 2019. The indoor pool will remain in operation until the start of construction. It is anticipated that it will close at the end of June, 2019. The Kirksville Aquatic Center plans to open the new facility in May of 2020!
