BATTLE OF KIRKSVILLE SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

(Kirksville, Mo.) – This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Civil War Battle of Kirksville. In commemoration, there will be a weekend celebration August 3rd -5th, at Rotary Park in Kirksville. Both adults and children will find entertainment throughout the weekend event, which is free to the public. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for their leisure.

The Battle of Kirksville took place August 6-9, 1862 in Adair County. Confederate troops had hidden themselves near Kirksville but were defeated when Yankee troops took over the town of Kirksville. This battle helped secure the Union’s influence in northeastern Missouri.
