JEFFERSON STREET ADDS BICYCLE LANES
(Kirksville, MO) – The City of Kirksville will begin making lane changes on Jefferson Street from Baltimore to High Street during the week of July 16th. Jefferson Street will be restriped from four narrow lanes to a three lane section consisting of a center turn lane with one lane of traffic and a bike lane in each direction from Baltimore Street to High Street. The layout will be very similar to the three lane sections of Baltimore. This change will eliminate conflicts from vehicles in what is now the left hand lane turning across the path of those in the right lane, and should make the road easier to navigate for all citizens. The crews will begin laying out the new pattern on Monday, and should complete painting of the main lane dividers by Thursday, July 19th. Painting will be done in the early morning hours, to minimize disruption to motorists. The links below are of the design/layout for the new bicycle lanes:
