(Kirksville, MO) -- As the 4th of July approaches this year, the Kirksville Police Department is concerned for the safety and well-being of the citizens of Kirksville.  For these reasons, they are issuing the following reminders:

The discharging of fireworks inside the city limits of Kirksville will be legal starting June 30th and continue through July 5th.  Individuals may only discharge fireworks between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. on their own property.  However, if a complaint is received and verified by the police department for disturbance of the peace of surrounding neighbors, discharging of fireworks will immediately cease and a citation may be issued.

"Public safety is our main consideration and while we want people to enjoy themselves, we want them to be safe too," said Officer Sara Holzmeier.

Additional information about fireworks in the City of Kirksville can be obtained by calling the Kirksville POlice Department at 785-6945.
