Public Works Department

Public Works is one of the most visible departments within the City government, yet many people are unaware of the operations that Public Works performs. It is important to understand what Public Works does and how they work for the City and its citizens.

There are seven divisions within the City of Kirksville Public Works: Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment, Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection, Central Garage, Street Maintenance and Administration. The Administration division oversees all other divisions. Each performs public service functions which are essential to the daily lives of Kirksville residents.

Public Works Mission Statement:

To operate, manage and maintain existing public infrastructure and provide quality services, within available resources. Plans and constructs capital improvement projects that protects public health and safety, water quality and natural resources while supporting economic growth and development. Assures the community is provided with safe, sustainable, and financially sound systems for drinking water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, stormwater management, fleet operations and multi-modal transportation.
