Snow Removal

Fourteen employees perform street maintenance work on approximately 100 miles of City streets. The City is divided into 7 zones for snow removal. An average winter has an estimated ice and snow removal cost of $80,000, which includes over 1,700 labor hours.

City Brush Site Maintenance / Brush & Limb Pick Up

The Street Maintenance division also maintains the City Brush Site. This responsibility includes burning brush that has been hauled into the site throughout the year - both during spring and fall brush and limb pick-ups and by residents - under an approved burn permit issued by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The City Brush Site - located at 22376 Missouri State Highway 6 - is open full-time for Kirksville residents only. Those who wish to dispose of yard waste, trees, limbs, and brush are encouraged to use the City Brush Site. No other trash or debris should be mixed with the yard waste, limbs, and brush. Brush Site guidelines are posted at the City Brush Site. If you are disposing of yard waste materials, plastic bags are not allowed and must be dumped out and not left with the waste material. All brush and limbs must be set out before 7:00 am on the Monday of the first full week of April for Spring and October for Fall Brush & Limb Pick Ups.
